Seznam.cz establishes its own data centre, the first outside the centre of Prague
Seznam.cz is going to build the first in-house data centre in an industrial zone on the outskirts of Prague. To that end, the company has purchased land in the industrial Park VGP Horni Pocernice. Until now, data centres have typically been located in the centre of Prague where sufficient data network density and capacity is available. The developer VGP is one of the first capable of offering land prepared for the construction of a data centre in an industrial zone on the outskirts of Prague.
Cushman & Wakefield’s Industrial Team assisted with the selection of the location for the centre. Altron has been selected as the general contractor for the project on the basis of a tendering procedure.
“The planned size of the data centre exceeds 2,500 sq m. This is the first in-house data centre development project for Seznam.cz; the company has used outsourced data centres for its operations to date. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion by the end of this year,” says Denisa Molatová of Cushman & Wakefield’s Industrial Team who facilitated the transaction.
Seznam.cz’s data centre represents a principal technological innovation that will contribute towards saving energy and reducing the environmental footprint. Seznam.cz announced its plans for building an in-house data centre in November 2013.
VGP was involved in the preparation of the technological infrastructure and obtaining the required permits. The meeting of the demanding requirements for infrastructure in terms of connection to independent data networks may attract further companies interested in building similar projects to VGP Park Horni Pocernice in the future.
